Unconfirmed Class 1: Unknown, China

I heard of this outbreak through an online forum. I dismissed the case however when I questioned the person about it and he wouldn't supply any more information beyond what he had already said. Which was that his brother is a private security contractor and had stated this town had been quarantined because of a plague which killed four.
When looking for information on this I found many events in small towns in China where unneeded force has been brought in to secure plague areas. In many of these cases people go missing and never return: even after police and mercenaries show up to quarantine the city. Most cases seem to boil down to a very small area, only a few houses in fact but the whole city gets sealed off each time. This happened in 2009 and 2005 officially but rumors and signs of it happening more commonly can be found.

The response seems a little over the top, police, mercenaries and military support, but at the same time with such a large population, any plague in China could quickly get out of hand. Media is kept to a minimal but this is also very standard of China and can be taken either as the Chinese government hiding something more then most suspect or simply as the tight security they say it is. In the case of each town the personal details of the civilians and soldiers killed are missing.

My suggestion: While the event itself isn't a lot to go on there may be something in the fact these events appear to keep happening.

Protein builds muscles... and zombies

Yes you read right fellow survivors. Proteins called prions may actually be the cause for zombies.

Prions are a type of protein that is created by, you guessed it, the act of eating a human brain. Many of these proteins exist and cause various diseases: two of which are Creautzfeldt-Jakob disease and Kratos disease. Creautzfeldt-Jakob disease is literally Mad Cow in humans. By eating infected meat a human can become infected. Kratos disease is hard to find information on any more because typing "Kratos" plus anything in any search engine comes up with nothing but God of War references. It is however a disease which creates the exact same symptoms Mad Cow does in cows but in humans and is caused by directly consuming the brain of another human.

Infectious? Not really, but still look at the effects:

• Twitching, uncontrolled movements.
• Aggressive behavior.
• Incoherent speech.
• Immunity to pain.
• Loss of all higher thought processes.
• Dementia and hallucinations.

And depending on which type of disease:

• Unstoppable laughter.
• Desire for human flesh (cannibalism.)
• Glazed over, "deadened" eyes.
• Sudden, uncontrollable violence.
• Murderous rage.

Sounds a little bit like the Rage virus from 28 Days Later doesn't it? And say, for instance, a group of scientists were to take these diseases, and combine them with a drug that removes the passive chemicals in our body, like they do to these mice. Looking at some of the links from that page comes up with some scary experiments when you consider that mouse and human brains work almost the same. If a scientist can do this to a mouse, he can do it to you. And it wouldn't take much for a disease like this to evolve (or be changed) into something that could be transferred by blood or saliva. Suddenly there is a human with no conscious, living in a world of his own, where other humans are a threat and he must eat them to save himself. Because his brain tells him too and his hormones don't even try to stop him. Add in a little bit of infectious tempering and you've got the perfect weapon to drop in an enemy country or even to clean up the slums of an over populated city. Think governments aren't too desperate to try it? Take a look at China. Or wars being started to lower populations or keep certain populations and races in check. And if you think doctors and scientists are too good for that kind of thinking. The world is constantly looking for ways to solve over population. As if prions weren't scary enough on their own...
