Deadites

Now follow survivors,

Deadites are not zombies. Let's go into more detail, deadites can be a form of zombie. Zombies are a human body being controlled by a highly infectious curse. Some deadites possess human corpses and turn them into zombies but even this is a magical, demonic possession not the result of a virus.

Deadites are demons. They possess human (or other living/once living) entities and control them. Deadites are also capible of a number of strange powers and transfirmations. Deadites can infect the body in any number of demonic, foul ways. The most horrific of which is the first possession in Evil Dead. A deadite is closer to a vampire then to a zombie.

To call a deadite a zombie is like to call an oven a chicken. Just because a deadite can create a zombie does not mean it is a zombie just as an oven is only one of many ways to cook a chicken.

The primary example of deadites is Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series. However deadites can be found in a number of films, -often under the name of zombie.- One such film is the short, "Jesus Saves" by Edmonton film makers Beyond the Darkness and Switchblade Cheeta.

It can be easy for the untrained eye to not see the difference in popular culture between a deadite and a zombie but I will list some of the differences here for you:

           Zombies                                                                 Deadites
-Are only killed by a destroying the brain.        -Can be killed by massive
                                                                                               damage from a hero.
-Do not think.                                                         -Think of very evil things.
-Spread through infection.                                   -Spread through possesion
                                                                                               (battle of willpower.)
-Can not speak.                                                      -Never shut up.
-Have no emotions.                                                -Hate all living things.
-Have no fear.                                                         -Are afraid of charismatic people
                                                                                                  and chainsaws.

As you can see the differences between zombies and deadites are quite important. Esspecially when asking the all important question for any monster hunter, "How do I kill it?" Zombies are fairly easy to kill one-on-one by destroying the brain. Deadites on the other hand are very hard to give final death to: it requires dealing massive amounts of damage to the deadites' possessed body such as with a chainsaw, shotgun or explosive and having the conviction and willpower to force the creature to stay dead. These however are still not enough to cause final death, the deadite must be mystically destroyed as well, this normally involves reading a passage from the Necronomicon or another Book of the Dead but can be done in other mystical means as well.

I hope that clears much of the confusion betweenthese two types of monsters, one of which is a very real threat and the other simply a tool for entertainment.

Be aware, may the infection never reach you, and those close to you have the resolve to do what is needed should you be so unfortunate, Mike D.

Class 1: Edmonton, CA

My interest in zombies first started when my cousin showed me one of my favorite zombie films, Undead. The next day I began reading and watching, everything I could get my hands on that had anything to do with the undead; which led to a lot of information, not just about zombies. Many works of fiction about vampires and other undead fell into my lap as I searched.

I hadn’t begun documenting my findings yet but I found a lot and I have been blessed with a great memory which kept track of vital information, unfortunately details like dates and names often illude me.
I read doctor’s reports on voodoo zombies and the drugs and physcology used to create these mindless slaves. I watched everything from White Zombie to 28 Days Later. I was enthralled.

Suddenly about four years ago my world was changed when I experienced my first outbreak report. I was in the process of reading the Zombie Survival Guide when I saw it on the news.
Man shot dead by police after killing his wife and attacking his children and police officers. The man was unarmed and had no history of violence. He just “went mad, like an animal.” One police officer was bitten by the man during the incident.

I phoned around and one of my contacts in the police informed me that the police officer bitten had died of mysterious causes, it was strange to get that information from him instead of on the news as most law enforcement related deaths are. This was my first encounter with news being withheld and I realized just how much might not be being told to the public.

The response was fairly standard for domestic violence, local law enforcement. Media footage was normal as well as the details were not hidden to any noticable extent unless further looked into. The more personal details like the deaths of the police officer or the cause of death of any of the people involved are missing.

The details breakdown-
Location: Edmonton, Canada
Time: January, 2007
Infected: 3 (estimate)
Response: Police
Media Coverage: Some footage and details.

My suggestion: Never doubt, always question, keep your eyes open.

Stay vigilant, may the infection never reach you, and those close to you have the resolve to do what is needed should you be so unfortunate,
Mike D.

Looking for leadership team

I am currently trying to start an Edmonton Chapter of the Zombie Research Society. I require two people to help me in this endeavor.

The Zombie Research Society is a group dedicated to spreading knowledge of the impeding zombie Apocalypse and encouraging new research in all areas involving the undead.

A link to the Zombie Research Society can be found at the bottom of my page if you wish to find more information.

To begin a chapter requires three ZRS members to work as a leadership core for the chapter. To round off the leadership team I am looking for a Vice President and Sergeant At Arms. The whole team together decides on chapter meetings, research projects and policies.

President:
Provides direction for the chapter. Maintains contacts with the ZRS and near-by chapters. Being the public face of the chapter and gathering material for members to access. Along with other duties relating to maintaining and advancing the chapter.

Vice President:
Acts as president went the president is unavailable and is responsible for keeping notes and documents for the chapter.

Sergeant At Arms:
Makes sure everything runs smoothly and on time. The SA also handles bringing new members into the chapter.

I mentioned research projects and meetings before. Each chapter is required to complete two research projects per year. These research projects can be of any sort and are decided on by the leadership team. They can vary in size and severity based on the size of the chapter and commitment of its members.

Chapters are required to hold five meetings a year at least two of which must be open to the public. The nature, location and times of these meetings are up to the leadership core.

Anyone interested in helping with this great cause (and located in Edmonton) please leave a comment or send an e-mail to: mdthesoldier@hotmail.com

Good luck, may the infection never reach you, and those close to you have the resolve to do what is needed should you be so unfortunate,
Mike D.
